About Me

My name is Nelson and have always loved tinkering and after buying a Shop Task 3 in 1 machines it all got started. My first love is wood but since I started to play (YES play with metal) because I had no idea of how to what to do. Seen a lot of things on the internet I would like to do but there was something blocking it. I worked in the printing industry and time kind of belonged to the company, if they had work it was almost mandatory to work so sometimes time was limited. I become disabled in 2012 and what a culture shock. Going from 60 to 70 thousand a year down to 15 thousand is the pits, I have the time but no money. Still something and I guess it will be that way the rest of my life but I am having a ball. Many years ago I bought a Millrite milling machine and now because of the China built VFD, I am able to use the motor that came on the machine. I am having a ball bringing this old dinosaur back to life. The previous owner removed the screws from the saddle and the bed. In the past I have come by equipment from the shops I worked in and salvaged everything I thought I would be able to use some day. Well In all of the parts I found two screws I could use to move the saddle and bed. The saddle has a brass nut and the bed has a bronze nut so I am in the drivers seat right now. The big problem is the screws are not .100 per rev, so using dials is going to be hard. Again hello China, they are making DRO that can be had for around $100 and that would make a very nice machine. That is my big build at the moment. I will not know how to act with a very solid mill in the shop to compliment my South Bend 10K model “A” with a taper attachment. There will be very little that will scare me at that time except the bill for cutters. They are the biggest expense and I believe I will be using a lot of tool steel cutters, but there is not many thing that can not be cut with them. After getting the mill up and running I can take in a little bit of for pay work to support the addiction. If you read this whole thing you know what I am about. Addicted to the smell of burning oil and metal.
